This lesson describes how to configure your Hover email on your Android phone.
For this demonstration we are using the Google Nexus One phone, there may be slight differences between the way each Android phone operates.
Tap the Launcher icon.
Tap Email.
Scroll down to the step titled Set up email to skip over the instructions on how to add an email address to a Nexus One phone that already has existing email accounts.
Press the Menu button then tap Accounts.
Please note - The Menu button is not part of your screen. It is located below the screen between the Back button and the Home button. The Menu button consists of a long horizontal line with three shorter horizontal lines below it.
A list of your existing email accounts will be displayed. Press the Menu button.
Tap Add account.
Type in your Hover email address and password then tap Next.
Tap IMAP.
A note to POP3 users: It is possible to use POP3 instead of IMAP. IMAP is recommended because it will enable you to view all of your email folders on our server. Regardless of whether you choose POP3 or IMAP, the remaining steps in this tutorial will be identical.
The incoming server settings screen will auto populate. We will need to manually edit the fields.
Type the following settings:
Username: Enter your full Hover email address
Password: The password should already be filled in using the password that you entered earlier.
IMAP server: mail.hover.com
Scroll down after entering the settings.
Select Security type and change it from None to SSL (Accept all certificates).
After seletcing SSL, the Port will change from 143 to 993 (if you are using POP3, the port will change from 110 to 995).
Tap Next.
Your incoming server settings will be tested.
The outgoing server settings screen will auto populate, just like the incoming server settings screen did. Again we'll need to manually edit the fields.
Enter the following settings:
SMTP server: mail.hover.com
Security type: SSL (Accept all certificates)
Require sign-in needs to be checked (it is checked by default)
After changing the Security type to SSL, the port number will change from 587 to 465.
Tap Done.
The username and password will be populated automatically using your incoming mail server settings.
Tap Next. Your outgoing server settings will be tested.
By default, your phone will check for new email every 15 minutes and notify you when you have received new email.
Tap Next.
Type a name for your email account and your name as you want it to appear on outgoing messages.
Tap Done.
Your Nexus One will load your messages.
You can now send and receive your Hover email on your phone!
