Outlook 2010

This lesson will show you how to configure your Hover email account in Outlook 2010 using IMAP.

To get started, please open Microsoft Outlook 2010.

The step-by-step instructions for configuring Outlook 2010 are slightly different depending on whether or not you are using Outlook 2010 for the first time. If you have never used Outlook 2010 before, then you can start with the next step titled "If this is your first time using Outlook 2010, you will receive the following startup screen:".

If you have used Outlook previously, please skip ahead to the step titled "If you have used Outlook before, complete the following steps:".

If this is your first time using Outlook 2010, you will receive the following startup screen:

Click Next if you are given the Microsoft Outlook 2010 Startup screen.

Select Yes and click Next.

Select Manually configure server settings or additional server types then click Next.

Select Internet E-mail and click Next.

You may skip to the step titled Internet E-mail Settings. The remaining steps are the same regardless of whether you are using Outlook for the first time or not.

If you have used Outlook before, complete the following steps:

Select File, Info, then click on Account Settings.

Click on Account Settings.

Click New.

If you have existing email accounts in Outlook, you will see this screen:

If you do not have existing email accounts in Outlook, skip to the next step. If you receive the screen shown above, select E-mail Account and click Next.

Select Manually configure server settings or additional server types and click Next.

Select Internet E-mail and click Next.

Internet E-mail Settings

Enter the following settings:

Your Name: Enter your name as you wish it to appear on your outgoing messages.
Email Address: Enter your full Hover email address.

Account Type: Select IMAP
Incoming mail server: mail.hover.com
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): mail.hover.com

User Name: Enter your full Hover email address.
Password: Enter your Hover email password and put a check next to Remember password.

Click on More Settings.

Select the Outgoing Server tab.

Put a check next to My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication and ensure that Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected.

Select the Advanced tab.

1. Under the Incoming server (IMAP) and the Outgoing server (SMTP) select SSL from both drop down lists labeled Use the following type of encrypted connection.

2. Change the outgoing server port number from 25 to 465.

Click OK.

Click Next.

If the settings have been entered correctly, you should see status Completed for both Log onto incoming mail server (IMAP) and Send test e-mail message.

Click Close.

Click Finish.

You can close the Account Settings window if it is open on your screen.

Your IMAP folders will be automatically populated and listed under your Hover email address.

Optional - Customize Folder List

If you want to customize which IMAP folders are displayed in Outlook, right click on your email address and select IMAP Folders.

Click Query to pull your list of IMAP folders from our server.

Select folders and click on the Subscribe and Unsubscribe buttons to customize which IMAP folders will be displayed in Outlook.

Hint: You can hold down the Ctrl key when clicking on individual folder names to select more than one folder at a time.

Click OK when done.
