iOS 2 on iPhone 3G

This lesson describes how to configure your iPhone to work with your email account. These instructions were created using an iPhone 3G running iPhone OS 2.2.1. If you are using a different version of the iPhone hardware or operating system, these instructions may differ slightly.

Launch Settings

Launch_settings

Tap the "Settings" button on your iPhone home screen. If you have installed custom applications from the Apple AppStore, this button may be located on a different home screen than the one pictured. By default, it is on your main home screen.

This is the main Settings screen. You will need to scroll down to the section labelled "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" as pictured in the next step.

Tap "Mail, Contacts, Calendars".

If you have already configured an email account on your iPhone, you will need to tap the "Add Account..." label shown. If you have not configured any mail accounts on your iPhone simply skip to the next step.

Tap the "Other" option at the bottom of the screen.

Enter in the information requested. In the password field, enter the password for your email account.

When you have entered in all of the requested information, tap the "Save" button.

Choose either "IMAP" or "POP" for your email service. Choosing IMAP will keep messages in sync between your iPhone and your other mailboxes. Choosing POP will provide you with slightly faster download times, but your messages will not be synchronized with your other mailboxes.

Incoming Mail Server Details

Incoming_mail_server_details

To configure the Incoming Mail Server details, enter in your username and password in the form of:

Host Name: mail.hover.com
User Name: your full email address
Password: your email password

For example, for the email address "ross@ultrarider.ca" I would enter in the following details:

Host Name: mail.hover.com
User Name: ross@ultrarider.ca
Password: "My Email Password"

Scroll down to the "Outgoing Mail Server" section.

Outgoing Mail Server Details

Outgoing_mail_server_details

To configure the Outgoing Mail Server details, repeat what you did in the previous step and enter in your username and password in the form of:

Host Name: mail.hover.com
User Name: your full email address
Password: your email password

For example, for the email address "ross@ultrarider.ca" I would enter in the following details:

Host Name: mail.hover.com
User Name: ross@ultrarider.ca
Password: "My Email Password"

Tap the "Save" button when you are finished.

If you encounter this error message, simply tap the "Continue" button.

Verifying Account Information

Verifying_account_information

Your iPhone will now attempt to verify the details that you entered. Be patient, this step could take a little bit of time.

Finished

Finished

After your iPhone has verified the account details that you provided, your account will be listed in the configuration section under "Mail, Contacts, Calendar" in the Settings application. You can change the behavior of your mailbox by tapping the account name you just created and by changing the other options displayed.

@Tommy

Thanks for the compliment on the lesson. At times we see Subscribers attempt to use the mobile setup plans while having a Webmail Only Plan. How do you know what plan you are on? Click on the Services Tab from your Hover Admin, and it will state the name of the plan you are on.
