Email Size and Storage Limits

All Hover e-mail accounts provide 2 GB of server side storage for archiving messages and you can send messages up to 18 MB in size.

In some of our documentation you may see 25 MB listed as the maximum email size. This is technically accurate, but not a practical limit. The maximum file size on our server for an outbound email is 25 MB, but when sending an email the size of the message is increased due to Base64 encoding used to format outbound messages. Base64 encoding causes an increase in the message size, sometimes by more than 25 percent. 18 MB is a more practical expectation, and it is dependent on how efficiently the email message and attachments can be encoded before delivery.

What's the max. file size that can be received? The same?

Hi Richard,

25MB is again the maximum size. I have received multiple files @23MB with no issue.

Now if you have a very large file you would like to send (over 25MB), there is a terrific paid service http://sendthisfile.com (they have a free signup and trial).

Is there a way of seeing how much of the 2Gb has been used?

@ Nick - You can view your quota usage by logging into webmail at https://mail.hover.com and then select Mail under the Settings category. You'll see a section in the mail settings titled "Mail Quota:" which will show how much storage your account is using.

What it the size limit to incoming messages - if any?

Friday Aug 13 at 07:13 PM Tyson Acker

@Hans - Thanks for your question! We do not impose a limit on the size of incoming messages, as long as it does not cause you to exceed your 2 GB storage quota.

RE: Tyson's response on 8/13/10

My Dad tried to send me a 23Mb file this morning, but it was rejected due to file size ... This does not agree with your statement that there are no size limits ... What up with that? Thanks.

@Harry - Your father's email service provider may, like us, prevent sending large files using email. As a workaround, your father could use one of these third party services to send you the large file:
