This tutorial explains how to configure Hover email in Windows Live Mail using POP3.
This article applies to the current release of Windows Live Mail. Windows Live Mail can be downloaded here.
Click on "Add e-mail account."
Fill in the following information:
1. Your Hover email address and password. Ensure the "Remember password" box is checked.
2. Enter your name as you wish it to appear when you send email as the Display Name.
3. Put a check next to "Manually configure server settings for e-mail account."
Click Next.
Enter the following settings in the two sections:
1. Incoming Server Information
a. Select POP3 from the "My incoming mail server is a X server" drop down list.
b. Incoming server is mail.hover.com.
c. Put a check next to "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)." This will change the port from 110 to 995. Leave 995 as the port number.
d. Log on using needs to be set to "Clear text authentication."
e. Enter your full email address as the Login ID.
2. Outgoing Server Information
a. Outgoing server is mail.hover.com.
b. Put a check next to "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)." Change the port from 25 to 465.
c. Put a check next to "My outgoing server requires authentication."
Click Next.
Click Finish.
The new account has been added and is listed on the left hand side.
A really convenient feature of Windows Live Mail is that it will save copies of downloaded email on our server by default. This is important for back up purposes and in case you want to download messages to more than one computer. If you want to adjust the settings for leaving copies of messages on the server, follow the steps below.
Right-click on the account name and click on Properties.
Click on the Advanced tab. In the Delivery section, you can modify your preferences for leaving copies on our server.
