This tutorial will step you through preparing a domain at 1&1 for a transfer to Hover.
Domain transfers will be outright rejected if:
* the domain name is locked (this tutorial will show you how to unlock your domain name)
* the domain name was registered or transferred in the past 60 days
* the authorization code provided is invalid (this tutorial will show you how to obtain the authorization code)
* the domain name is in redemption
* there is an unresolved domain dispute (a form of registrar lock)
.com
.net
.info
.org
.tv
.us
.me
.biz
.tel
Other top-level domains, such as .AT domains, have a slightly different transfer process. For example, you do not need to unlock .AT domain names or obtain an authorization code.
*The .UK and .CA registries only allow domain privacy if the domain registrant / owner is an individual. Organizations cannot have privacy enabled.
Log in with your customer ID and password.
Click on the drop down menu button located beside the Start then click on Domains & Webspace link.
Click on the Domains link
Put a check next to the domain name to be transferred, click on the arrow next to the Contact button, and select Show Contact Details.
Under Domain Contact Details, check whether the User Data and Administrative Contact email addresses are up to date. If domain privacy is enabled, you will only see the User Data email contact information.
If your contact information is current, then you can skip to the Unlock Your Domain Name section.
Click on the drop down menu button located beside the Start then click on Domains & Webspace link.

If you need to update your domain contact information, then domain privacy must be disabled. While privacy is enabled, contact handles for the domain cannot be edited.

Select Public and click OK.
From the Data Source drop-down list, select "Let me use an alternate Reg-C" then enter your contact information.
Put a check next to “I am aware that I am conducting a change of ownership of the domain(s) and confirm that this is made with the consent of or at the request of the current owner (registrant; Reg-C)” and select “Use this data for the administrative (Admin-C) and technical (Tech-C) domain contact details.”
Click Next.
Scroll down the Domain Contact Details Overview screen and click Submit at the bottom.
Click Go To Overview.
The domain status is set to "updating." After the changes are propagated, the status will be set to "Ready."
Skip down to the section titled "Unlock Your Domain Name."

An alternative method is to go to:
http://cancel.1and1.com
Set your desired domain to cancel as soon as possible, and select change provider.
Then you are provided with the auth code, and all above steps on this page are done automatically. Cheers,
